Ice Box Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of sugar creamed with lard
  • 5-6 cups of flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup warm water with the following: 1 Tbsp. of sugar, 1 pkg. of yeast
  • 1 cup of milk scalded and cooled
  • 1/4 cup of shortening
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp. of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix milk, shortening, and 1/4 cup of sugar. Let cool.
  2. Add yeast mixture. Stir enough flour so it's not runny.
  3. Add egg and mix.
  4. Add the rest of the flour. Let raise, then shape into rolls.
  5. Let raise again.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Be sure to knead the dough before putting it into a greased bowl to raise.
